Welcome to Sydney FC Foundation’s Inclusive Programs Officer, Ben Sutton
Sydney FC Foundation is very excited to welcome our Inclusive Programs Officer, Ben Sutton, to the Foundation.
Ben brings extensive experience from the football world, having represented Australia for 7 years with the Pararoos team, the national team for people with cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury and syu. In addition to his playing career, he has over a decade of coaching experience across various clubs and programs and holds a degree in sports coaching and exercise science.
Ben is the current coach of the NSW Cerebral Palsy team, who a recent finalist for the 2024 NSW Champions of Sport award in the ‘Team of the Year with a Disability’ category. Under his leadership, the team has achieved remarkable success, and Ben’s dedication to developing players with disabilities has been instrumental in elevating the team's performance and recognition. Ben was also a player on the team, having contributed to their success for many years before announcing his retirement from playing post-tournament earlier this year. His transition from player to coach has been seamless, thanks to his passion for the game and his commitment to mentoring the next generation of athletes.
In addition to his role with the NSW Cerebral Palsy team, Ben established the Para Development Centre, an initiative aimed at introducing new players to the sport while nurturing talent at all levels. The centre has become a vital resource for aspiring athletes, offering training, development programs, and support to players with disabilities. Through this initiative, Ben has played a crucial role in identifying and developing future stars, many of whom have gone on to represent Australia at the highest level, including players on the Pararoos and ParaMatildas teams. His work has not only contributed to the growth of the sport but has also helped break down barriers, ensuring that players with disabilities have access to the opportunities they deserve.
Ben’s legacy is built on his unwavering commitment to the football community, his leadership on and off the field, and his passion for creating an inclusive environment where all players can thrive. His continued impact on the sport will undoubtedly leave a lasting mark on Australian football for years to come.
